Of the 227,226 occupied housing units in Baltimore City, 49.1% are owner-occupied, while 50.9% have renters living in them.

Minorities, poor Whites, and now the LGBTQ+ community, have taken the backseat for centuries and any offerings of reparations will not forgive the sins of our dreadful past. In the Jim Crow ’30s, redlining was the rule of lending denied to communities of color, by red color, to exclude them from capital. Though the practice was banned by the Fair Housing Act in 1968, it’s like the New Jim Crow; it still exists today! HUD (Housing and Urban Development) won a lawsuit against Associated Bank in 2015.

There are some protections for LGBTQ+ people
These states/city prohibit housing discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
- California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington.
In addition to the states listed above, another four states prohibit housing discrimination based on sexual orientation only.
- Maryland, New Hampshire, New York and Wisconsin.
Courts and administrative agencies in several additional states have interpreted either their sex or disability discrimination statutes to prohibit certain forms of discrimination against transgender people.
